Tournament Report: May 16th‘s 74-person Saturday night Swisses event:
While we had a very wide variety of deck submissions and colors represented in the tournament, there was a clear statement made yesterday as to the strongest deck/archetype in the meta.
A very even spread of decks across the color pie were submitted:
But the winning deck lists were noticeably homogenized
These decks represent the top 20% (15/74) of results:
Almost entirely green creature-based decks that can proactively close a game when curving out. It is clear the early meta predictions are coming to fruition and the under-costed stat-efficient green creatures that WOTC has recently pushed are making the presence known.
29 decks in the tournament (~40%) were some form of Aggro, Midrange, Stompy, Ramp, or Creature Toolbox (pod/blink). And as seen above, the Aggro and Midrange variants performed very well.
It remains to be seen whether a deck arises to target these creature-based decks, or if a single dominant list starts to emerge. But to me, one thing in clear: the meta has spoken, curving out creatures (particularly green ones) is the strategy to beat.
